Tale of Two Futures
Words can’t express the frustration, anger, vexation and righteous indignation associated with the present political campaign, much of which is directed at the Republican Party. Apparently their game plan is to become extinct and the path they have chosen in opposing Trump will only accelerate and ensure their demise. As one pundit put it well, the Republicans are not afraid Trump will lose, they’re afraid he will win and upset the cozy little Washington environment that it seems politicians on both sides crave.
Exodus 18:21 lays out the criteria for a leader. Yes, God has rules and the three-legged stool for character is that one must fear God, love truth and hate covetousness. The third leg is the Achilles heel for Republicans. They get to Washington on the first two legs but the covetous desire to stay saws off the third leg by the end of the first term. So does this election really matter?
Absolutely, for this election isn’t about two personalities even though the low-wattage humanoids comprising much of the electorate think so. It’s not about sex tapes or even the scandalous way by which Hillary does absolutely everything. No, it’s actually about two futures, not two presents. It’s about the survival of a country that was symbolized by a thousand points of light but will soon be a thousand points of darkness, of government spying, punishment and elimination of more of our Constitution if Hillary wins. It’s an election that will give us another chance to recover our national soul or destine the nation to splitting as God did to Israel when it remained in persistent sin.
You see, the fact is that someone who votes for Clinton, or refuses to vote for Trump actually hates their children and grandchildren. The devastating impact that a Clinton election will have will last for decades, but in just a few years from now those individuals who didn’t vote for Trump will look back and realize their political immaturity of basing a voting decision on an 11 year old locker room tape.
It was said about Obama, that electing such a fool is a recoverable act due to the nature of our political system but redeeming the nation of fools that put him in office is a Herculean task. Rehoboam was the son of Solomon, who succeeded him on the throne of Israel. When he made the decision to ignore the wise counsel of his father’s advisors and follow the opinion of the spoiled brat millennial peers with whom he hung out, it was over. A generation of peers without responsibility, experience and knowledge and who knew not the wisdom of the previous generation, caused Rehoboam to make a decision that caused God to invoke a break-up the nation of Israel. Sounds real “progressive” doesn’t it? A vote for Hillary isn’t progressive, it’s suicidal.
